‘Botanical Diptych: Lifecycles’

Completed in 2021

Digital illustration, printed on ‘Conqueror Laid’ textured paper, 300gsm, A3

‘Botanical Diptych: Lifecycles’ is inspired by the fusion of science with illustration, from an educational perspective which conveys environmental issues. It uses traditional composition and structure, refers to the scientific origins of botanical illustrations and alludes to the historical scientific representation of the practice. Conversely, the shapes used to capture the Banksia and Waratah specimens reflect a modern approach, although they are still accurate and precise in their representations.

The texture of these prints also adds an element of imperfection from the natural state of the paper’s grain, reflecting the beautiful yet imperfect nature of plants.
