‘What I discovered was that everything which meant most to me as a naturalist was being threatened, and that nothing I could do would be more important’
- Rachel Carson
Maria Ppiros (phonetic spelling: pi-ros) is a researcher and educator based on Kaurna land (Adelaide, South Australia). Maria’s interdisciplinary research explores the intersections of botanical illustration, health, science, cooking, human-nature connections, design and environmental education.

I acknowledge that my work is conducted on the traditional Country of the Kaurna people, of the Adelaide Plains.
I respect their past, present and future cultural heritage beliefs, and their strong spiritual connection and belonging with Country.
I recognise Aboriginal people’s continuous relationship and knowledge of their native lands, water, sky, animals, bush and flora. I acknowledge that the native flora of Australia is best understood by Aboriginal Australians.
